Account & data deletion

Leaving on your own terms.

Your account, your pages, your call. Two paths to delete — in-app or by email — and a clear note on what leaves with you.

Option 1 — From within the app (fastest)

  1. 1.Open Dear Thoughts on your phone.
  2. 2.Tap the Profile tab (bottom right).
  3. 3.Scroll to the bottom of the profile → tap Delete account.
  4. 4.Confirm. Your account and every entry, voice note, and check-in are removed from our servers within 24 hours.

The in-app delete is final and immediate. There is no recovery window. Export your entries first if you want to keep a copy.

A note on the panic wipe: it clears this device only. Your account and encrypted entries remain on our servers until you delete the account — that deletion is what removes them everywhere.

Option 2 — By email

If you can’t access the app, write to us from the email address you used to sign up:

privacy@dearthoughts.com

Use the subject line Delete my account. We respond within 1–2 business days and complete deletion within 30 days (usually 24–48 hours).

What is deleted

  • Your profile (email address, display name, preferences)
  • Every journal entry you have written (free-form pages, templates, prompt responses)
  • Voice notes attached to entries
  • Photo attachments
  • Foundation check-in answers and personalised practice plans
  • Future Self letters (delivered, scheduled, and drafts)
  • Streak history, mood timeline, anniversaries — all derived data
  • Analytics events linked to your account (Dear Thoughts uses privacy-first analytics; nothing personal is sold)

What we keep, and for how long

By default, nothing personal stays. Two small exceptions exist for the reasons below:

Auth log records · up to 90 days

Anonymised sign-in timestamps required by our auth provider (Supabase) to detect abuse. No journal content. Auto-purged.

Crash diagnostics · up to 30 days

If the app crashed for you, we may keep an anonymised stack trace to fix the bug. No entries, no email, no identifier that ties it back to you. Auto-purged.

Delete only some data, not the whole account

You don’t have to leave to clean house. From inside the app you can delete:

  • An individual journal entry (long-press → Delete)
  • A voice note (open the entry → trash icon)
  • A photo attachment (open the entry → tap the photo → Delete)
  • A Future Self letter before it is delivered (Letters → Pending → swipe to delete)
